FROM FIELD TO OFFICE
Access InspectX from your home PC without any installation.‍‍‍

In this video we’ll explain how to open an InspectX Project from any other computer or device on your network.

If you’re just joining us now or still learning the features of of InspectX I want to be very clear, the arrangement we’re covering in this video is not required to operate and use InspectX, but is rather an added benefit and feature that makes accessing the software and your Survey projects possible from any other computer on your network. No further installation is necessary and this is something that can be very useful especially since it can be utilized when accessing from a Mac, iPad, Home office computer or any other machine without any further installation.

To take advantage of this arrangement you’ll need a ‘Host’ computer that has InspectX already installed on it. This can be any computer running Windows7 or later.

Next we’ll need the device or computer we want to access this ‘Host’ machine from. This can be any device with any operating system, and for the purpose of this discussion we’ll call this the ‘peripheral’ machine.

The only other criteria in this scenario is that both these computer/devices need to be connected to the same network. Now this network does not need to be connected to the internet, it can be easily re-created using a portable router in the field, but for this example let’s just use your home network.

So I’m going to assume that by this point you have successfully installed InspectX on your Host machine, and now we’ll go through the easy process of accessing this host machine from another device. Before we do, however, we’ll need to know the IP address of this host machine. There are a number of ways to find this depending on your version of Windows.

In Windows10 we’ll open up SETTINGS, open NETWORK & INTERNET, select WIFI from the list on the left and finally select HARDWARE PROPERTIES. On your current home network, the host computer’s IP address is the IPv4 address. Save that IP address number, and let’s move over to your ‘peripheral’ device.

On the peripheral device, open your favorite web browser and open the URL address bar at the top of the browser window. Enter the saved IP address followed by a colon and 5 fives. :55555 Press go/enter and you should have access directly to the version of InspectX on the Host computer.

You’ll have access to everything on InspectX exactly as if it was installed directly onto this device, and this same setup works if you have multiple surveyors working in the field on the same report at the same time. Also, this same arrangement is very conveniently if you want to use your home office computer to access your field tablet without the need to transfer any files or information at all.

Remember, the IP address of the Host machine will change when you move to a different network so it is probably worth saving and naming individual bookmarks depending on which router you’re using. For now, save the bookmark address on your peripheral device to make it easy to access InspectX in the future.

That’s it, I hope you were able to follow along on your own machine, or at least have a better general understanding of how this can be done. Thanks for watching.
